Lula’s Gourmet Tea was inspired by my grandmother, Lula, who lived in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Some of my earliest memories of tea began watching her make sun tea in large pickle jars my father would bring home from his store. She would carefully clean the jars, place them outside in the Carolina sunlight, and allow the tea to slowly steep throughout the day. Those simple moments sparked my love for tea at the age of six and planted the seed for what would one day become this brand.
Today, that legacy lives on in every blend we create.

Lula’s Story

Before Lula’s Gourmet Tea was a brand, it was a memory.
My grandmother Lula lived in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Some of my earliest memories are of watching her make sun tea in large pickle jars my father would bring home from his store. She would carefully wash the jars, fill them with water and tea bags, and place them outside in the Carolina sunshine, allowing the tea to slowly steep throughout the day.
It was simple.
It was patient.
It was intentional.
That tea was often served alongside some of the best meals I remember—fried white corn, homemade biscuits, and fatback. Those moments around the table weren’t just about food or tea. They were about family, comfort, and slowing down long enough to enjoy life together.
I began drinking tea around the age of six, and over time it became more than a beverage to me. Tea became a ritual—a moment of peace in the middle of life’s busyness.
The Pickle Jar That Started It All
Before there were tea blends, labels, or packaging, there was a pickle jar sitting in the Carolina sun.
My grandmother Lula would clean the jars my father brought home from his store, fill them with water and tea bags, and let the warmth of the sun slowly bring the tea to life.
No fancy equipment.
No timers.
Just sunlight, patience, and love.
That simple jar of sun tea became the beginning of my lifelong connection to tea.
Today, every blend at Lula’s Gourmet Tea carries a piece of that memory—a reminder that the most meaningful traditions often begin in the simplest ways.
From Memory to Mission
Years later, that childhood memory became the inspiration for something greater.
What started as a love for tea slowly grew into a vision—to create blends that bring people the same sense of calm, comfort, and connection that tea has always brought into my life.
